ENTR3015: Blog #1

Hello Reader!!

My name is Arvish Pandey. I am an international student from India, currently a sophomore at the University of Cincinnati. I am pursuing a major in computer science (BSc) at the College of Engineering and Applied Science and a master's in business administration at Carl H. Lindner College of Business. I completed my high school in India, with a concentration in physics, combined mathematics, and computer science.

I will be managing this and the upcoming blogs as well as I will be setting up an extension to my current website and hosting these blogs and future updates here.

I started programming when I was in 6th grade. The first language I learned was C++ as part of my high school coursework. Never had I imagined that I would come so far pursuing this newfound passion all the way across the globe. For the next six years, I learned more languages like JAVA and python. By the time I was graduating I published my first book on the JAVA programming language. Other than just programming, I would enjoy studying technology and teaching myself about them. I also designed and built drones, both controlled and semi-autonomous, autonomous vehicles, and other cool gadgets. I have presented my work in exhibitions of all-levels and graduated high school with 12 different Excellence Awards.

Other than just sitting on my computer all day writing bug-free code, I love music too. I have studied the Indian Classical Instrument called Tabla for 14 years and was part of the nationally renowned Symphony Orchestra. I have also performed, both solo and non-solo, before great personalities like the former Indian President and Space Research/Defense Chief Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, National Politicians, Global Ambassadors, and during the closing ceremony of the Indian FIFA Cup. I also love to travel to different places with friends and family, try adventure sports, ordering food and watching movies.

As a child I used to have a lot of ideas but never enough money to transform them into actual projects. I used to read a lot of finance and startup books and biographies of famous businessmen. That's when I realized the importance of a startup, a 9-5 job but you build your own legacy rather than someone else's. The same reason why I decided to take MBA. Not that I need one for a startup but I need one because I wanted to learn more, about the concept and how that concept applies to the country I am new to. And hopefully, on my way, I will meet great and like-minded people, learn from them, from my mentors, and put my best foot forward. This class was the first opportunity. I had to choose a Breadth of Knowledge Course and what better way to utilize it. So, I went for this course.

I hope to gain a ton of experience. Experience of what sitting in a business class is like, which by the way is polar opposite of an engineering class. Experience of what talking to new people and coming up with new ideas and collaborating to work on it is like.

I firmly believe that this class will be an asset to me: in the present and in the future.
