ENTR3015: Taming The Dragon a.k.a. Digital Advertising
As a digital entrepreneur, I'm constantly seeking innovative ways to promote my business and connect with the right audience. Recently, I embarked on an advertising campaign using my personal website and Google Ads, to showcase my services and work as a software and web developer, and its associated projects. This assignment challenged me to think strategically about creating an effective website and ad that would resonate with my target audience and generate tangible results.
The ad I crafted for Google was simple yet captivating. It featured a headline, symbolizing the essence of my services, with a compelling caption below it. I wanted to ensure that the ad seamlessly blended with my website using attention-grabbing words and lots of keywords. By striking a balance between eye-catching UI and stunning projects, I aimed to captivate the attention of Google's vast user base, which includes individuals from diverse backgrounds and interests.
To maximize the impact of my ad, I strategically targeted the entire United States and the State of Ohio separately. This approach allowed me to narrow down my audience but also cast a wide net and increase the chances of attracting potential customers who were geographically closer to my business but also get more leads. Additionally, I showcased my flair in coding through the landing page of the website, as the prospective clients were more likely to engage with my services if the website displayed my skills. By aligning my target audience with the core offerings of my services, I sought to create an immediate connection that would resonate with potential clients and businesses.
Crafting the target audience with precision was essential to establishing a loyal customer base. By connecting with individuals who shared similar interests, I anticipated an organic growth through word-of-mouth recommendations and expanding my digital presence within the software industry. This strategic approach also allowed me to focus on building a solid foundation before expanding too rapidly.
The call to action in my ad was straightforward and clear: I wanted to attract potential clients, userbase and businesses to explore the services offered by me. By promoting the website on Google Ads and using careful SEO and well-crafted meta-tags, I encouraged visitors to check out the website. The ad directed viewers to the landing page, where they could find a centralized link in the navbar to access our content and learn more about our offerings, basically branch out into whatever stream of service they are interested in.
Analyzing the results of my advertising campaign provided valuable insights. With a modest budget of $5, the ad reached a total of 1021 people—a promising outcome that exceeded my initial expectations. Although the ad attracted fewer clicks than anticipated, 53 individuals engaged with the link and explored the profile. Demographically, the audience skewed slightly more male, comprising almost two-thirds of the viewers, while the remaining third identified as female or preferred not to disclose their gender. Furthermore, the majority of the audience fell within the age range of 18 to 24 years, reflecting the interests and preferences of young individuals passionate about coding and related fields.
This advertising assignment has taught me the significance of strategic targeting and the need to adapt campaigns to the preferences and characteristics of the intended audience. By employing a well-crafted ad on Google and developing a great landing page, I was able to connect with potential customers and generate initial interest in my services. Moving forward, as a digital entrepreneur, I plan to refine my advertising strategies, leveraging these valuable insights and incorporating feedback to enhance future campaigns and websites.
